Kyle’s POV :
I knew that John was the one I wanted to spend my life with early on. We may drive each other crazy, but there’s no other person I could imagine going on adventure with or riding the roller coaster we call life. He often tells me I don’t listen, but I really do - I swear. I knew he wanted to be married by 28, and while the wedding might not happen in time I was adamant on proposing. In my head I had planned out a dozen ways I was going to do it - each one had a wrench thrown in it when John wouldn’t agree to the plan. My first thought was to take him to the aquarium in Vancouver, as fish are one of the things that make him happy. I had it all planned out how I wanted to do it, only for him to kibosh going to the aquarium saying we had been there recently. Then I had a big plan to propose while we were at the Alanis Morissette concert, which originally was going to be the two of us but quickly grew when family wanted to tag along. Quickly adjusting plans I decided to convince him to take a walk with me in the park. I’m not sure I have ever been more nervous in my life, but I did it. We found a quite place, and I handed him a letter (which I had attempted to write my feelings in Tagalog and bitterly failed in making sense much to his humour) and while he was reading got down on one knee. After a couple of nerve wracking moments he said yes, making it one of the best day of my life.
John’s POV : We all dream of that fairytale engagement scene where the man of your dreams walks with you to a very romantic setting and gets down on one knee and gives a tear jerking spiel before popping the question and the whole world stops and you cry tears of joy before saying yes! then you hug it out and it will be the happiest time of your life. Well that's not quiet how it happened. First off all, I had no idea that Kyle had planned this whole proposal on my 28th Birthday (I guess I don’t give him much credit for remembering that I have always dreamt of being married by the time I’m 28, clearly that's not happening but that's not the point) We were gonna see Alanis Morissette live in Vancouver, we were gonna stay at this air bnb condo and he had the whole thing planned to a tea; Of course me being a typical buzzkill decided to invite my sister, her husband and my cousin to tag along with us ( to be fair, I had no idea that he was planning this! Don’t judge me!) so Kyle had to improvise and do last minute changes to still make things work, He knew proposing at the concert is a BIG NO because that will draw too much attention on me, his plan to do an intimate proposal at the air BNB is now a NO GO because my family is there and it'll be awkward if he asked me to marry him while everybody was watching so he decided to take me for a walk after the concert, (who goes for a walk at midnight?) I was exhausted but whatever, my sister wanted some tea anyway so we did, We began walking around aimlessly talking about random things when we finally saw a Tim Horton's, Yay! we could get our tea and come back to the air BNB and relax for the night. We walked past the Tim Hortons and I was thinking to myself where did he want to pickup the tea? I just went with it and we got to This lovely park, it was quiet (at first) lots of lights and vacant benches, he asked me to sit down and take a break from the walk. It was kind of deserted because well you know, it was midnight but there were a few sketchy people around but they are far enough away from us, He grabbed something out of his coat pocket and he went down on one knee! in my head I was like WTH? why here? why now? but OMG He's proposing! I didn't know he was working on learning filipino (tagalog) so he could propose in my language (okayyyy, A for the effort) It was so Romantic and I said Yes! I was over the moon and had finally felt that overwhelming feeling of happiness and love. The surge of emotions was too overwhelming that I had to constantly keep moving. We had to get out of the park anyway because some randos began screaming at each other and I didn't want them to ruin the moment for me. So we walked back, got our tea and went back to the air BNB. We shared the news to family and friends although nobody really responded since it was 1:00 am at this point. It was the best birthday ever!
